Off the Easel!

Wow, I've been so busy with teaching, I haven't updated this blog in a few weeks.   Here are the things I've finished and want to share
I'm not big on working with mandalas or in the round, but this one intriqued me.  The center ended up looking 3-D.
I want this car!  I have always wanted a VW Bug.    Hoping my next car will be one!  This was a fun piece to do. It would be fun to have a car painted this way.
My version of "Mufasa" from the Lion King.  Couldn't decide if I like'd him in black/white or color.  So...I did the black and white and copied it and did it in color.  Which is your favorite?
Trying my hand at more sketching.  This is my sweet "grand kitty", Lilly.  My son was happy with it.
A commissioned piece for someone who collects penguins.  This is an emperor penguin.

Tangles Photos!

So, I'm settled back in to the home routine and have spent a couple of evenings playing around with tangling the photos I took on my trip.  See if you can see any resemblance of the photos in my previous post!

Back from the Cruise, Back to the Drawing Board!

I had a wonderful time on the cruise and much relaxation.   Our trip ended with a friend's beautiful wedding on the Miami beach.  As I walked around the cruise ship I was taken by the "tangles" everywhere.  At the end of the day, back in the stateroom, I found myself sketching them out!  See here the inspiration and I'll post new tangles for you in the next few days made using these patterns!
Before we even left the airport I was looking for patterns.  Here on the floor of the Ft. Lauderdale walkway.
Carpets are great for finding new doodles.  Can't wait to put these on paper!

The wall of a restaurant we ate in!  Cool, right?

All around the ship.

IT'S A Challenge!

Leaving for my cruise this week, I will be sketching and doodling parts of my trip.  A travel journal in pictures, so to speak.  While I'm gone, I thought this would be a great time for all of you to make up some new doodles of your own!  Remember, think "out of the box".  Let things you see inspire you.  It may be something in nature, a piece of art, a story you heard, etc.
Then, send me a photo via email by March 1st and you could win a new Strathmore sketchbook!
A great way to try out working on beige paper, a new journal that Strathmore is making, in addition to their new gray papered ones.  Value 12.00        khofferth@me.com

Just off the Easel!

Most men would come home with roses and chocolates, but my man brought me a new tabletop easel for Valentines Day!  Wow, does this make the biggest  difference in my posture.  Its easy to sit for awhile in any chair and end up being stiff and sore when you get up.  The easel allows me to sit straight up and have it to the edge of the table with no excessive reaching. My back is better supported.  It has its own drawer for all my goody pens and folds up easily for on the go!  I did this butterfly last night watching my favorite "chick" channel, PiXL.  I have plans for this Butterfly - it will be cut out and mounted on black for framing.   Below is the finished sample from last weeks class.  I use these templates so I can demonstrate using Copic markers, tangling, and colored pencil with copics.
